The weather’s rubbish again, there’s another vomiting bug on the loose and you’ve not got Olympic tickets. Can it get any worse? Maybe, but before you get too down in the dumps here are some books that always give us a lift.
Bobbi Brown’s Living Beauty – it has got a chapter on cosmetic surgery, but the rest includes practical advice along with diet and exercise tips. If you love BB’s make up – this is also good masterclass in how to get her trademark ‘no make up make up’ look.
Beat the Banks by Jasmine Birtles – anything that empowers us to sort out our finances is worth a read and this is one of the best.
Nigella Lawson’s Kitchen/How to Eat – I’m not a natural cook but somehow I find Nigella’s easier to follow. Her salmon sushi is a great standby.
Trinny and Susannah’s Who do you want to be today/Survival Guide – I wasn’t a fan of their TV show but these two guides are great for when you are in a fashion rut and need a bit of straight talking.
Friedrich Nietzsche – Thus spoke Zarathustra – I read this after reading that Nietzsche was a major influence on my favourite writer D H Lawrence. I still can’t work out exactly what it’s about which is why I’m reading it again.
The Rough Guides – any of these basically. Simply to remind us that while there are sunnier and warmer and places we’ve been to, and can go again.
